Participatory Dance: Body Percussion and Traditional Dance with Kurdish Influences

Join a participatory workshop on body percussion and traditional dance with Kurdish influences from Eastern Anatolia. The workshops will be led by Ömer Ongun, a dancer, choreographer and body musician from Istanbul, Turkey. He is a member of Bogazici Performing Arts Ensemble (BGST) and Kardeş Türküler (Songs of Fraternity) dance-music project promoting peace and solidarity through representing the cultural diversity of Anatolia, Mesopotamia, Balkans and Caucasia. Storytelling and Panel on the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike

The Workers’ History Museum is holding a storytelling event with Ruth Stewart-Verger of the Ottawa Storytellers about the strike with a panel discussion afterwards. Her grandparents lived in Winnipeg in May of 1919. Her family tells the story of Grandfather William Coulter, one of the Strike Committee of 100. This fundraising event is being held Monday, May 13th at the former Council Chambers at Centrepointe Nepean at 7:30 pm. The entrance fee is $10 each. Hosted by the Workers' History Museum - Musée de l’histoire ouvrière.
